I was part of a mini-event (called a ‘mini-bang’) as part of a wider Grishaverse fandom event (‘The Grishaverse Big Bang) where fanfiction writers will create a short fanfic and a couple of artists will draw something inspired by it!
It wasn’t meant to be a Polaroid-style piece, I’d always intended it to be square (because yey, Instagram squares) but I’d left space on the canvas for colour swatches and once I’d removed them, it looked a lot like a Polaroid! I wrote in the fic title ‘repenting for a difficult mind’ in the space, I thought it’d be cute.
This painting was quite an experiment for me in several ways:
- I almost always start with a sketch + lineart, but here I went into painting straight away
- I’ve not done this kind of ‘dark figures with just highlighting for features’ thing (it took me so long hahaha)
- I tried some more textured brushes and for once!!! didn’t overblend so the brushstrokes can still be seen. Oh I nearly cried (in a good way), I’ve always wanted to have more texture in my paintings but I can never seem to stop myself from blending them into oblivion…
I quite like how this turned out overall though, and I hope you will too. You can also check out my fellow group artist Fae’s artwork here!
If you’d like to see a timelapse video of the painting, just swipe to the end of the Instagram post below:
I also want to apologise for being so absent recently!! This week and especially today has been so busy, tiring, emotional and stressful. I’m hoping to do some blog hopping over the weekend!
What are your weekend plans?
Aside from catching up with your blogs, I also need to do my Spanish homework and brush up on the tenses we’ve covered recently, and I’m hoping I can read either ‘Heartstopper’ Vol. 4 (Alice Oseman) or make some decent progress with ‘The Ones We’re Meant to Find’ (Joan He), ‘Sorrowland’ (Rivers Solomon), or ‘Unravel the Dusk’ (Elizabeth Lim)! Of course, I have a lot of household chores too. Hope it’ll be sunny at least!
